RIP Willo

March 25th, 2010

Hi Team,

I’ve known James Williamson since I moved to Giant 5 years ago. Quietly spoken and quick with a smile, Willo was friendly and intelligent. Sad he’s gone and certain to be greatly missed.

James was a great rider, but a world champion bloke.

Velotron saves the day…again.

March 23rd, 2010

Hi Team,

I’m training a bit, so light at the end of the tunnel, despite missing Port this weekend. Good luck to my mate Shorto, who should win (I hope) on his 15th shot at IM Australia.

i’d like you to meet my sanity device: The velotron (http://www.computrainer.com.au/velooverview.html).

Phil at Computrainer Australia will be up at the expo at Port, so say hi to him. They have the full range of courses from Port to Kona- I’m looking forward to prepping for Ironman by riding the course at home.

here’s hoping to seeing you on the track soon

Frustration Land.

March 17th, 2010

Morning All,

Well, lady luck has deserted me in the last 18 months. I have suffered another injury which is going to prevent me from racing at Port MacQuarie. I have a three cm tear in my hamstring tendon (semi membranosus for those medically trained) up near the top of my leg. This was a result of the race I did at Sandringham in late Jan. Very, very frustrating. I trained through significant discomfort for six weeks or so, hoping it would get better with anti-inflammatories, physio, massage and relative rest. Unfortunately, an ultrasound did not show the injury and I had to have an MRI to diagnose the problem. I have attached the MRI for those who like jargon. I had an ABI (autologous blood injection) into the tear two weeks ago, which helps knit the tendon together. It has helped with my symptoms.

So the take home is, I won’t be in Port for the 25th Anniversary race. It’s extremely disappointing for myself and my loyal sponsors. Special thanks to Giant, Shimano, Cannibal and Powerbar. I am putting an alternate racing plan together so I can rehab, build some base and qualify for Kona. It’s certainly going to give me a good chance to work on my swimming.

Lastly, I’d like to again thank everyone who has contacted me with support for my article in the recent Australian Triathlete mag. It’s clear that there is a groundswell against this initiative, let’s hope it translates into action by the WTC.

See you in the pool

Mitch
